How flowers help in child development(Soundarya Dristi in our Culture)
Sensory development
Flowers engage children’s senses of sight, touch, and smell. Children can explore different textures, like silky petals and tough stems, and smell various floral scents.
Emotional well-being
Exposure to flowers can improve emotional well-being and reduce stress levels. This can enhance concentration and focus in a learning environment.
Creativity
Flowers’ vibrant colours and unique shapes can engage the brain and inspire innovative thinking.
Connection to nature
Flowers can foster a connection with nature, promote mindfulness, and help us appreciate the world around us.
Gardening
Gardening can be a form of exercise that encourages healthy eating. It can also stimulate all five senses, as children can feel different textures in the soil, seeds, and plants, smell the flowers, and hear the bees and birds.
Symbolism
Flowers can express feelings that words can’t, and can symbolize love, grief, rebirth, and new beginnings.

Soundarya Drishti
There is no alternative English word for Soundarya Driti. The word beauty is close but in our Bharatiya culture, the Soundarya Dristi is given a multidimensional meaning that is more feeling-oriented. Because Soundarya Driti is so important in our culture even our homes were simple but never were our temples. Have you noticed we have enough temples which stood the test of time but where are the homes of those who constructed them!!. Generations have invested their entire life in the construction of temples to make them extravagant.
In the mornings Rangoli(Kolam), the pooja we do, and the natural decorations of home during festival celebration are all testament to our Soundarya Dristi. I’m sure your mother asked you to go and get some neem and mango leaves for decoration during festivals!
Why do you think we have given so much importance to Soundarya Dristi in our culture?
